Advanced Perspective. Curvilinear
This shows the idea of how to create a curvilinear perspective image. It is quite rough, and I was not interested in making a nice image. I wanted merely to show how to use curvilinear perspective. Normally this view would only be used when drawing something incredibly massive. It is a bit like looking through a fisheye lens.
It is considered an advanced technique because you should already have a good grasp of 1, 2 and 3 point before trying 5 point or curvilinear perspective. I cropped it at the end for better composition and to give that feeling of vertigo that curvilinear is great for.

The colour at the end was added by duplicating the main layer, setting it to multiply and adding base colours to a layer underneath that. I did not show in detail how I did it because I spent most of the time using the polygonal lasso tool and it is boring to watch.

Drawing Bodies
So I got a lot of requests from people to show how to draw the torso or the figure. Well, I am not very good with those! My specialty is faces. But anyway, I tried to show how I basically do figures. I usually am using paper and they look a bit better but hopefully the general idea comes through. I start with the spine and head and ribs and pelvis, then make the arms and legs and do it all very roughly. Then I make a body out of that. On paper I let it stay really rough and then I can trace over the good lines on a clean sheet. On computer it is easier by just using layers. I have not had any formal training, so if you are good at figure drawing and could offer advice or tips, they would be welcome Tools: Painter IX, Camtasia Studio, Wacom Tablet Music: Ravel "Pavane for a Dead Princess"

How to Draw Ears
Showing you how I draw ears. With ears, probably the most important thing is to pay close attention to angles. The first ear is a side view ( so done on a person in profile ) and the second is one from the front. Sorry about the music... Wasn't paying attention when I chose it.

Drawing a House in Perspective
I use the term 'house' loosely, because it's a house a 2 year old could draw. The important thing is the perspective, not the house. Notes: The horizon is where the sky meets the earth. The dot I placed on the horizon is the vanishing point. You can move the horizon up or down and the vanishing point left or right. In three point perspective, the three vanishing points ( two on the horizon, and one below or above the horizon ) form a triangle shape. Any object you wish to render in 3 point perspective must fall inside this triangle. If you try and render an object outside the triangle, you'll end up with distortion. How to Draw Mouths
Showing how I draw mouths. The key principle I'd wanna get across here is that when you draw mouths, you should think of them on a curved plane. You can use your hand to feel over the surface of your own mouth to see just how curved that surface actually is. What else? Oh yeah... Don't make the lines of the teeth too obvious cuz it looks ugly. lol. That's it I think. Tools: Photoshop Camtasia Studio Wacom Tablet

Speedpainting 6
Another woman... I am taking painting digitally more seriously now. I used to do it just for these videos, and on my own time I had practice with oils and do my more "serious" work... But I have found that doing these digital works actually helps me improve my understanding of colour a lot better than just doing a lot of oil painting. Anyway, so this one is sped up a lot. Actual time was a bit over 45 mins.

Sketching a Face- Basic Proportions
Its been a while since my last video. The reason was that I had to wait to get my new 9x12 Intuos to replace the old 4x5 Graphire I was using for the past videos.
Anyway... So I got a few requests of people wanting me to show proportions of the face and how to start it. So this is a pretty basic attempt at that. I recorded it at actual speed, but it seems really slow because I am still getting used to this new tablet. I am at least 3 times faster with paper and a pencil.
Programs used were Painter IX and Camtasia Studio. For those wondering what brush I used, it was a 2B Pencil with default settings, at a 2.2 size and with a light light bluegray colour.

How to Draw Necks
I hope you can follow along with this without commentary. If not, it is okay cuz I will tell you my secret. After a long time of struggling with drawing necks (trying to learn from anatomy books and learn all the muscles) I found that you really only need to know 3 main things: the trapezius, the clavicle and the sternocleidomastoid. You can look it up in an anatomy book if you do not know where they are. Once you do, you should not have any problem seeing how I am making necks.

Drawing a City Block in Perspective
More perspective. A bit more advanced than last time. This starts off showing you how to draw a grid of squares that are all the same size in perspective. It's very hard to explain perspective in writing, and though it seems extremely complicated when you don't know what's going on, once you 'get it', then it's easy. I hope this helps a little bit. I learned my perspective this way, from watching someone else draw using vanishing points. Before that, I had looked at tons of books but I could never figure it out. I hope that showing what I'm doing in this way will help. Tools: Photoshop Camtasia Studio Wacom Tablet
