  1. What is Sclipo?
Sclipo is a next generation Learning Management System (LMS) web application, also known as Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) or a Course Management System (CMS).

Sclipo helps teachers teach better and students learn more. Sclipo gives teachers a Web Academy with advanced eLearning and social tools to foster learning and collaboration.

Any member on Sclipo can open her/his own Web Academy, and thousands from over 100 countries have already done so: professional teachers, schools and companies to teach their students and customers as well as social teachers who help others to learn for free.

Sclipo is -- almost certainly -- the earth's largest campus!

  2. Why use Sclipo to teach and learn, and for what type of education?
Teachers, schools and organizations on Sclipo use us because traditional Learning Management Systems (LMS) are prohibitively expensive and too complex. Many of our members have been using generic web applications, and they switched to Sclipo because our specialized instructional apps respond better to their needs.

They also use Sclipo because their Web Academy is part of a social network of thousands of other Academies and their students. Hence, teachers and students on Sclipo can connect and share with those of other Web Academies from all around the globe. This has never before been possible in the world of eLearning, where one can only interact with members of the same school or organization that hosts the LMS.

Sclipo is not a substitute to a traditional LMS that runs in a large University or corporation. Sclipo is for learning that does not require a 500-pound-gorilla Course Management System. Sclipo is specially well suited for adult education delivered by freelance teachers, small companies and continuous education centers.

  3. What is a Web Academy?
A Web Academy is the dedicated Learning Management System (LMS) of a member. Each Web Academy contains tools to teach and administer student as well as to share and collaborate with them.

Any member on Sclipo can open her/his own Web Academy: professional teachers, schools and companies use their Web Academies to teach their students or customers. Academies are also opened by what we call Social Teachers. These are individuals who teach for free without seeking an economic benefit. For example, a Social Teacher is your neighbor who loves to help out with math just for the joy of it.

The private Profile helps to manage your learning activities and to connect and socialize with other members. For members who also teach on Sclipo, their Profile showcases teaching activities. The Profile is private. Each member controls who can view it. Members can connect their Profile with their Facebook account. This way, teaching and learning activities can be published automatically to their Facebook wall.

  8. How does Sclipo help me find new students & make money?
Sclipo helps teachers teach their current students better, and students learn more from their current teachers. Sclipo is not a market place to find new students or teachers.

We help make money by giving teachers tools to easily collect payments. They can set a price for activities and content, and get paid securely through PayPal or other forms. Sclipo does not charge commissions.

Teachers and students on Sclipo can also find new Academies and study buddies through our search and affinity features. We encourage every member to take advantage of being part of the largest campus on earth.

Also, Web Academies as well as their non-private activities and content can easily be shared on Twitter, Facebook and other social media. People will also be able to find Web Academies and their non-private activities and content on search engines like Google.

  9. How much does Sclipo cost and who can use it for free?
Sclipo charges a flat monthly fee for Web Academies. Prices vary depending on the type of Web Academy, and additional services. There are no commissions for Sclipo. See our current pricing for Web Academies.

Sclipo does not charge students. Students pay Web Academies. It is up to each Web Academy to decide for which activities and content to charge and how much.

Sclipo offers free Web Academies to Academic and K-12 teachers, as well as to Social Teachers. Sclipo defines as Social Teachers those who teach for free without any commercial benefit. For example, your neighbor who loves to help out with math just for the joy of it, is a Social Teacher. The non-for-profit organization, whose teachers get paid through grants from the Bill Gates foundation, needs to pay for its Web Academy. Fair enough?
