What is the difference between a Sclipo Online Campus and a traditional Learning Management System (LMS)?
See this overview of all Campus apps.
The Sclipo Online Campus is built for teachers and organizations in continuing education. A traditional LMS is built for Universities and other large institutions. The difference between Sclipo and a traditional LMS comes from addressing the different needs of educators and learners in these two education segments.
• Relevant features! A continuing education process is different and less complex than that of a large institution such as a University. It thus requires less and different features. We focus on providing only the features that are relevant for continuing education. This makes a Sclipo Campus not only more useful but also much easier to use for teachers and students.
• IT-free! Teachers and teaching organization in continuing education normally do not have an IT department or expertise required to host, install, configure and maintain a traditional LMS. A Sclipo Campus is IT-free, meaning anybody can open and use an Online Campus without IT and programming skills.
• Less time and money! Being IT-free, a Sclipo Campus requires less time to set up, and no resources for hosting and programmers. One can open an Online Campus in a few minutes for a very competitive fee starting at less than one dollar per day. A traditional LMS in contrast can take months to set up and the total LMS costs (hosting, IT personnel, etc.) can quickly exceed thousands of dollars.
• Promotion! Continuing educators normally do not have large advertising budgets, marketing and sales departments. This is why a Sclipo Campus provides promotion tools by default. In addition, a Sclipo Campus, its courses and content can be explored by not-registered visitors. This helps to attract new students as these can easily preview content and teachers before signing up. A traditional LMS in contrast, can only be accessed by registered users and potential students cannot get passed the login page.
• Social Learning! A Sclipo Campus integrates social network features by default. In addition, Campuses on the platform can also share and connect among each other. For example, courses of a Campus can be published on a central classifieds, teachers of one Campus can teach at other Campuses and content of one Campus can be used in courses by other Campuses. (A Campus can, of course, also choose not to share.) A traditional LMS is a standalone solution. Members of one Campus cannot access members and content of others. This is why we like to call Sclipo a social learning network.

How does a Sclipo Online Campus help me get more students and make money?
See this overview of all Campus apps.
Sclipo helps to attract students and to generate revenues by making the Campuses SEO friendly, and by providing invitation, promotion and payment tools.
• SEO friendly Online Campus: The Campus is SEO friendly, i.e. it is Search-Engine-Optimized! This means, all teachers and content (courses, documents, videos, etc.) on the Campus have their own unique links (URLs) which are stored and indexed by search engines. So, Google and other engines can store hundreds of links pointing to the Campus. People who find an interesting content, can visit the Campus and explore all its services, courses and teachers. This helps gain new students. In a traditional LMS in contrast, people (and search engines) are stopped at the login page. Links are not indexed making it hard for potential students to find the Campus in the first place and impossible to evaluate in depth. This reduces sign-up rates.
• Invitation tools: Each e-Learning application has tools to invite people. One can invite current Campus students and followers as well as people who are not yet registered on the Campus.
• Promotion tools: Each Campus has its own Classifieds listing for courses, live sessions, content, events and groups. These are also published, on Sclipo's central Classifieds. In addition, Campuses as well as their non-private activities and content can easily be promoted on Twitter, Facebook and other social media.
• Payment tools: The Sclipo Online Campus provides tools to easily collect payments. Teachers can set a price for activities and content, and get paid securely through credit card or other forms. Sclipo does not charge commissions.
-
Can I teach and learn privately, and in public?
Yes! Courses, live teaching sessions, events, groups and content on the Campus can be open, restricted and secret.
• Open: Everybody can find, view and participate without approval from the Campus teacher(s).
• Restricted: Everybody can find the activity or content, and view general information about it. To access it, a teacher has to grant admission.
• Secret: Only people invited by a teacher will be able to the see the general information about the activity and to participate. -
